Atom Minors Win The North London National Tournament

|
Amherstburg Stars Dominate in London |
The Atom Minor Stars won the North London National Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend. The Stars opened Friday evening with an impressive 8-0 victory over the Fort Erie Meteors. Saturday morning, the Stars blanked East London 8-0. Saturday evening, the Stars came from behind to knock off the previously undefeated SSE Wild by 2-1. That win secured first place in Pool A and set up a match-up with the host team, North London Nationals on Sunday. The Stars led from start to finish, beating London soundly 5-1. The SSE Wild knocked off the Aurora Tigers, setting up a rematch in the championship game. Once again, the Stars were dominant and shut out the SSE Wild 2-0 en route to the championship. This win started the three division sweep - PeeWee Major next and the Midgets closed out the weekend with the crowd chanting "Sweep, Sweep, Sweep...." The Stars won all 5 games of the tournament and outscored their opponents with a combined score of 25-2. This tournament followed up the Richmond Hill Tournament in Toronto, where the Minor Atom Stars were finalists in early September. After defeating the Belle River Rink Rats 4-2 on Saturday night, the Stars move into 2nd place in the Bluewater League, setting up a match-up with number one, Tecumseh, this Saturday on their ice. Tecumseh has only lost once this season, and it was on Tecumseh's ice against the same Amherstburg Stars who won that tilt in a convincing 7-3 romp. The Stars are led by the solid goal tending of Michael DiPietro and Dershahn Stewart. The Stars boast a gritty defensive corps - Jason DeLuca, Trevor Beneteau, Dylan Everett, Keegan MacVoy and Hunter Gault. Offensive snipers include David Desormeaux, Joey Corio, Bryce McGregor, Jack Jasey, Andre Tomasian, Savannah Bouzide, Marcus Slipchuk, Curry Smith and Franco Morrone. The players represented Amherstburg, both on and off the ice with good sportsmanship, hard effort and pride. The Stars next goal is to bring home another Championship from Holland, Michigan in early November.
PeeWee Minors Win the Motown Challenges OCT 25/26 2008

On the weekend of October 25-26, the Amherstburg Stars Pee Wee Minor Hockey Team took home the Championship at Joe Louis Arena in the Motown Cup Challenge, played in Southgate Michigan. With some great skating and unbelievable goaltending our boys went undefeated. Our first game was against Brampton Battalion, and it started out fast and furious! The Stars came out on top after the 1st period by a score of 4-2, led by goals from Mitchell Holden, Christian Dennis, Marshal Laing, and Jacob Damico. The Defence then put the clamps on The Battalion, not allowing any more goals for the next two periods, led by the hard play of Ryan Scott and Ryan Wismer. The Final score ended up being 8-2, with second and third period goals by Jordan Bastien, and Brent Allen. Feeding the scorers with the puck was Garret Meloche, AJ Purdie, and Michael Lenson.
In the Stars second game on Saturday, they took on a bigger and stronger Oakville Hound Dogs Team, but the results were the same. Using speed and agility The Stars jumped on the Hound Dogs fast with first period goals from Avery Brush, and Cory Burns. That would be all they needed, as once again the Defence put the brakes on any momentum the Dogs achieved, led by hard play from Matthew Pardo and Joel Rorseth. The Stars added a goal in the second and third periods by Marshal Laing and Brent Allen. Dean Meunier had his first shutout of the season and now had a streak of six periods without a goal against him.
The tone was set for a fabulous Championship Game played on Sunday Morning in Detroit at The Joe Louis Arena. The opponent was the 2-0 Humbervalley Sharks. The first period was a very tight battle with many bone crushing hits, and fast skating. The first period ended with a 0-0 tie. The play of the second period was similar to the first until 3:07 left in the period when Christian Dennis took a hard slap shot from the circle, and Cory Burns slammed home the goal off the rebound, giving the Stars a 1-0 lead going into the third period. The Stars now saw the Championship in their sight, and with 11:00 left in the period, Mitchell Holden made a crisp pass to set Cory Burns on a breakaway where he beat the goaltender to give him his second goal of the game. The Humbervalley Sharks would not go away, and with two stars in the penalty box and intense pressure in our end, the Stars dug down deep and again Cory Burns put the puck past the Sharks Goaltender giving him his third goal of the game. The Stars then put the end of the Sharks’ hopes with again great goaltending and strong defence. The stars won the Championship game by a score of 3-0. Dean Meunier had his second consecutive shutout and now has a streak of eight periods without being beat. Way to go Coaching Staff and the Amherstburg Pee Wee Minor Stars!!!!!
